Website Accessiblity: Ensure Your Website is ADA Compliant

THE ISSUE

Back in 2018, the Department of Justice affirmed that websites need to be accessible. What is web accessibility?

“Web accessibility is a set of rules, behaviors, code standards and design guidelines, that are meant to allow people with disabilities to effectively use websites”.

It focues on these main areas:

Blindness || Motor & Mobility || Color Blindness|| Epilepsy || Blurred Vision || Cognitive Disorders || Aging || Cataracts & more

What Are the Possible Risks of Not Having an ADA Compliant Website?

  • You could face a lawsuit if a person with a disability claims they cannot access your website
  • You might endure costly legal fees
  • You might have to pay for a possible settlement
  • Your business will encounter a potential public relations problem
  • You will endure the cost of rebuilding your website so it is ADA compliant.

THE SOLUTION

So how to do you make your website ADA compliant – which takes a lot of time and money?

Our software solution uses an AI (Artificial Intelligence) powered solution interface which makes your website compliant within 48 hours.

We use two components that together achieve compliance:

  1. The first component is the foreground application – which is responsible for 30% of the requirements. We place a small wheelchair icon on the bottom right hand side of your website that is clickable. Once clicked, it opens a simple but extensive interface that helps people with disabilities. You can adjust the font size of text, invert the colors of the website, and several other things that assist users with disabilities. Overall, it makes it simple to make adjustments to access your site for any disabled user.
  2. The second component is the background application, which is AI machine learning. It’s responsbile for 70% of the legal accessibility requirements. It’s mostly related to blind people, screen reader adjustments, and keyboard navigation.

Once our software is installed on your website, it takes about 48 hours to go through the entire website with the AI to make sure your website is fully compliant. Once completed, you automatically receive an accessibity statement that is automatically posted on your site.

Every twent-four hours, the AI scans your site to see if there is any new content, and then makes that content compliant. Therefore, it is an ongoing solution opposed to a one time update.

If you are ready to make your website ADA compliant, it is super-simple. Click the buttom below to get started and you will be setup with our software. Our team will receive a notification and we will set up the software on your site. You don’t need to worry about any of the technical requirments.

GDPR Compliance

If you are unfamiliar with GDPR compliance, it stands for General Data Protection Regulation.  It is a European Union (EU) privacy law that came into effect on May 25, 2018.

THE ISSUE

This regulation now gives individuals power over the use of their personal data and holds organizations accountable for their data collection and usage practices.

Wondering why you should care about a regulation in the EU? The GDPR applies to any organization that does business with EU residents. So basically, if you do business online, you must be GDPR compliant. If you don’t, your business could be fined. Unless you intend on denying website access to all EU and UK citizens, then I’m afraid it applies to you, provided your business website collects, records, organizes, stores, or performs any operations with data.

Here is the GDPR legislation in a nutshell:

• GDPR is written to protect citizens from privacy and data breaches
• It regulates what can done with personal data
• It answers the questions of what is considered “consent”
• It states a ‘cookie’  should be treated as personal data.  Why? Any cookie that is capable of identifying an individual, or treating them as unique without explicitly identifying them means your business is processing personal data.

THE SOLUTION

DON’T PANIC: If your business or organization falls short of compliance, its by no means too late to take steps to ensure you are following the law.

So what steps do you need to take to ensure your website is GDPR compliant?

  1. Your Privacy Policy needs to be written very clearly about the data that you are capturing and how people view it.
  2. An SSL certificate should be installed to your website to encrypt the data in order to stop people from hijacking it.
  3. Forms on your website should not include pre-ticked boxes. The customer (user) needs to accept the opt-ins tick box for each option
  4. Granting consent must be a simple process. Users should have the right to withdraw their consent like ‘unsubscribe’.
  5. The usage of advertising, marketing and third-party cookies like Google Analytics should be outlined in your privacy policy
  6. Be sure any IP tracking you do is stated in your privacy policy as IP addresses are captured during blog comments.
  7. User need to opt into the social media advertising for using their email addresses, and also be offered the ability to opt-out
  8. e-commerce businesses have to modify the process to remove any personal information after a reasonable period.
  9. The language used in the website should be simple and easy to understand, as jargon is not acceptable in GDPR.
  10. Your website must have the correct procedures in place to detect, report and investigate any personal data breach.
